Music Road Guide

Nashville heritage

Nashville, for the people
who were there the first time.

You did not discover country music from a playlist. Our days are for the people who were there: the Ryman's backstages with someone who played them, Music Row with someone who recorded on it, and the honky-tonks where we have reserved the seats and the waitress knows your name by the second round.

Standing-room Nashville

The city forgot you have been listening for fifty years

Modern Nashville tourism is built for the bachelorette weekend: standing rooms, six-hour lines, and volume over music. But this city's best rooms were built for listening - tables, waitresses, and players who notice when the crowd actually knows the words.

We build days around the listening Nashville: the seats are reserved, the stories are firsthand, and the evening show is chosen because the band plays verses, not volume. If you saw the Ryman in '74 or wish you had, this is your version of the city - at the pace it was always meant to be enjoyed.

The guides

Pickers, players, storytellers

01

Otis Callahan Founder & guide

Thirty-one years as a Nashville bass player - Opry sessions, road years, and the stories from both. Guides the Music Row day personally; knows which studio door holds which echo.

02

Darlene Pike Guide

Retired from a twenty-year run as a background singer. The Ryman day is hers: the pews, the backstages, and the acoustics demonstrated with a verse when the room allows it.

03

Wendell Fox Guide

Songwriter, forty years, two hits and a thousand cuts. His honky-tonk evenings are legends: the reserved tables, the songs' backstories, and the waitresses who take his orders like family.

04

Patsy Renner Booking & care

Reserves the seats, secures the tickets, and knows which evening shows start at eight and which start at eight-ish. Her distinction has saved many an afternoon nap.

Client stories

What our clients say

« "I saw the Ryman in 1974 and this was better - Darlene sang a verse in the hall and I am not ashamed to say the whole group went quiet. Reserved honky-tonk seats at our age are not a luxury; they are a necessity, and Wendell knows everybody." »

Harlan J.
72, longtime listener

« "Otis played on half the records on my shelf. Riding Music Row with him pointing at doors - that session, that argument, that hit - was worth the trip alone. Lunch place had booths and history in equal measure." »

Dot & Marvin R.
68 & 70

« "The Grand Ole Week for our fiftieth. Patsy's Opry seats were the ones you cannot buy this late, the songwriter's round had chairs WITH BACKS, and my husband danced for the first time since 1989. Five days, zero standing in lines." »

Frequently asked questions

The whole company exists around this fact. Reserved tables at every honky-tonk, seated options at every stop, and evening shows chosen for listening rooms over standing rooms. Tell the planning call; it changes nothing but the arrangements.
With Patsy's seats, yes - the good ones secured months ahead at cost. The show is built for listening, the seats are actual seats, and the broadcast makes everyone behave beautifully.
You are being guided by them; that is the design. Wendell's songwriter round seats you table-side with the writers themselves - requests encouraged, backstories guaranteed.
The parts with seats, on our schedule, with your table reserved. Wendell knows which rooms play music over volume and which waitresses have been there long enough to be family. You will not stand in any line.
Encouraged, witnessed, and on at least one occasion this year, joined by the guide. Carole's husband set the standard; you are welcome to raise it.
No - the city's history rewards the curious generally, and half our clients arrive as accompanists and leave as converts. Otis converts people; it is his other talent.
